A 26-year-old man is in police custody after he was found with seven sacks of bhang in Ugenya sub-county on Monday.

The suspect, Jared Okoyo Abucheri, was nabbed by police officers who were on patrol along Sega-Ugunja road. He was riding a motorcycle loaded with the illicit substance, which is estimated to have a street value of over Ksh 1 million.

According to the Ugenya sub-county police commander, Joseph Mwika, the officers became suspicious of the motorcycle's heavy load and stopped the rider for inspection. Upon searching the sacks, they discovered that they contained bhang, which is a prohibited drug in Kenya.

The police commander said that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. He also warned drug traffickers and peddlers that they will face the full force of the law if they are caught.

He urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or persons to the police, saying that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.
